Standards Lesson: This 1.5 hour session pre-teaches the curriculum that students will encounter in their upcoming week of class at CCHS. It’s a proactive approach to building confidence and mastery before they face the material in school. Rather than just presenting random problems and solutions, our instructors organize the material into a “narrative” that carefully and clearly builds understanding. For many students, this is the immediate benefit they sense above a typical experience of trial and error in terms of figuring out their math assignments. Instructors organize the content into the “standard types of problems” that students should know and the core concepts that relate these problem types together. This allows students to more easily and efficiently take their CCHS quizzes/tests because they don’t spend time just working through a problem or getting stuck not knowing how to begin; instead they can identify the problem type and know exactly what to do for that type of problem.
Practice Test Sessions: These 1 hour sessions allow students to take practice tests on the week’s materials and complete test corrections. This ensures they understand the concepts thoroughly and are prepared for their end-of-week quizzes or tests at CCHS. For each quiz/test given at CCHS, we have two versions of a practice test that mirrors the types of questions students will likely encounter.. During this time instructors answer questions, re-teach, work one-on-one, and check in with students.
During these sessions students may also ask questions related to homework from class or the current topic in general.
When are the lessons held?
- Option 1: Regularly Scheduled In Person Lesson Times. Lessons are conducted in person with our teachers at three different times weekly. Typically the Sunday Class is the Standards Lesson and the Tuesday and Thursday Lessons are Practice Test Sessions, but we adjust based on when Creek gives tests so that students are always best prepared and the weekly schedule and topics are always posted on our class site and announced weekly via email.
- Option 2: Office Hours. Enrolled students may come in Mondays-Thursdays (3:45-7:45 PM) to watch the recorded Standards Lesson or do the practice tests in our study area. This room is always staffed by 1 or 2 instructors available to answer your questions as you complete the lessons. If you have a conflict with regularly scheduled in-person lesson times due to sports or other activities, we often recommend a weekly office hours appointment at a set time to establish a good routine.
- Option 3: 24/7 Access to Online Materials: All in person lessons are also broadcast via Zoom at the published class times. Additionally, every session is recorded, and all materials (including lesson video, standards packet, notes, practice test, and keys) are posted online. This allows students to make up missed lessons or review and rewatch lessons as needed for reinforcement.

- The class site not only contains our schedule and lesson materials (including recording of the Standards lesson). It also provides detailed homework guides to help you with your nightly math assignments (given by your Creek teacher) when you don’t have lessons at Saccomano Academics. We don’t want you to get lost or frustrated, and we want you to apply the proper technique when you do your nightly practice.
