You need a solid A in your current math class (93% or above, NOT a B or A-.) If your grade is lower than a solid A, our first discussion needs to be about how to support you to get your grade above this threshold.
If your goal is to “skip” Geometry Honors, Algebra 2 Honors/Trigonometry or Pre-Calculus Honors you need to be ready to begin doing extra work after Spring Break, and continue throughout the summer in order to pass the exam in August.
Students who are advancing from Physical Science Honors into AP Chemistry can greatly benefit from in-person summer sessions with access to an instructor. Over the past years we have found that many students struggle with the increase in difficulty and a gap of base knowledge when making this jump. We have been providing a prep course using our SaccoScience Chemistry Honors Curriculum for Cherry Creek High School students to help advancing students start with all the knowledge they need to be successful along with their peers.
In order to provide the necessary base knowledge for students to succeed in the AP Chemistry class, we have found that completion, and understanding, of the first four (out of fifteen) chapters in the Chemistry Honors textbook gives students the base they need for success in the AP course. Additional chapters are available for purchase upon request after the first four chapters are completed.
